Belmont Abbey men and women reach final of Conference Carolinas/Great Midwest Bowling Championships

GASTONIA, N.C. – The second day of the 2024 Conference Carolinas/Great Midwest Bowling Championships saw top seed Walsh work their way through the women’s consolation bracket to Sunday’s championship against third seed Belmont Abbey. On the men’s side, top seed Kentucky Wesleyan advanced to the championship where they will face third seed Belmont Abbey.
WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
Belmont Abbey topped second seed Lincoln Memorial 4-3 before taking a 4-0 win over fourth seed Kentucky Wesleyan to book a spot in the championship match. Sixth seed Ursuline defeated eighth seed Barton 4-1 before falling to Walsh 4-1 in the second round of the consolation bracket. Fifth seed Emmanuel eliminated seventh seed Thomas More 4-1 before falling to Lincoln Memorial.
Walsh then defeated Lincoln Memorial 4-2 and followed that with a 4-2 win over Kentucky Wesleyan to advance to the championship match. The Cavaliers will have to defeat Belmont Abbey twice on Sunday to take home the crown. The action at Liberty Lanes is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.
MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP
Fifth seed Thomas More eliminated sixth seed Barton 4-1 while top seed Kentucky Wesleyan narrowly topped fourth seed Walsh 4-3 to eliminate the Cavaliers. Third seed Belmont Abbey edged second seed Emmanuel 4-3 before the Lions eliminated Thomas More with a 4-0 victory.
Kentucky Wesleyan booked their spot in the championship match with a 4-1 win over Belmont Abbey before the Crusaders defeated Emmanuel to advance to Sunday’s championship match.
The championship match is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Sunday on Liberty Lanes. Belmont Abbey will have to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan twice, and the Panthers need just one win to claim the title.
