Conference Carolinas Tuesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Chianel Asoburuenwu, Mount Olive

    A sophomore from Raleigh, North Carolina, Asoburuenwu competed in four events at the Adidas Trojan Challenge and reached the podium three times, including victories in the 100 meter dash and the 4x100 meter relay. She delivered an NCAA Provisional Standard in the 100 meters after crossing the line with a time of 11.73 seconds, which ranks second all-time in Mount Olive history. Asoburuenwu served as the opening leg in the 4x100 meter relay, which hit another NCAA Standard with a conference-best time of 46.35 seconds while competing on their home track.

    She finished runner-up in the 200 meters and hit the league mark with a time of 25.07 seconds. Asoburuenwu also recorded a conference standard in the 400 meters with a time of 58.00 seconds to place fifth overall.

    Field Athlete of the Week
    Adrienne Crawford, Mount Olive

    A junior thrower from Middlesboro, Kentucky, Crawford reached the podium in all three events she competed in while registering a pair of victories in the discus and hammer throw at the Adidas Trojan Challenge hosted by Mount Olive. She hit the NCAA provisional mark and finished first overall with a distance of 53.66 meters in the hammer, which leads Conference Carolinas this season. In the discus, Crawford registered the top mark with a toss of 44.96 meters and holds the top spot in the league in the event. She also posted a second-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 11.85 meters.

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Joey Tindale, Erskine

    Tindale won the 5000 meters at the Lee University Invitational over the weekend. He finished in a school record time of 14:47.05, which is also the fastest 5000 meter time in Conference Carolinas this season.

    Field Athlete of the Week
    Elijah Hall, Converse

    Hall, a freshman, set a personal record by one meter in the triple jump at the Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by South Carolina this past weekend. He posted a leap of 14.10 meters, ranking him second in Conference Carolinas this season.

  • Player of the Week
    Emily Konz, Francis Marion

    Konz hit .571, going 8-for-14 while scoring six runs and driving in two for the Patriots in four games last week. She helped Francis Marion go 3-1 last week and went 4-for-5 in stolen bases while registering a .625 on-base percentage. The junior registered at least one hit in all four games with three multi-hit contests

    She started by going 2-for-3 with a run scored in game one at Lander and 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one driven in during game two. She followed that with a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored in game one against Young Harris and 1-for-3, scoring once and driving in one, in game two. Konz is currenlty riding a six-game hitting streak.

    Pitcher of the Week
    Miranda Holmes, Barton

    The Barton senior threw a pair of complete game league victories over Mount Olive (2-0) and Lees-McRae (3-1) last week. Against Mount Olive, Holmes posted her sixth shutout of the season as she only allowed five hits and struck out 10 over seven innings. Over the weekend she struck out eight over seven innings and only allowed three hits against Lees-McRae. Holmes is 11-5 on the year and leads the league with 164 strikeouts.

  • Player of the Week
    Landon Choboy, Mount Olive

    A graduate student from Raleigh, North Carolina, Choboy finished with an impressive .500 batting average, going 6-for-12 with one home run and four runs scored. He also drove in six runs as the Trojans produced a 4-0 record last week. On Tuesday evening, he went 3-for-3 with a home run, drove in three, scored twice and added a walk in a 15-11 win over Catawba.

    In the series opener against No. 21 UNC Pembroke on Thursday, Choboy delivered a two-run single to center field in a 9-8 comeback victory before going 1-for-1 with a double, two runs scored, three walks and one stolen base in an 11-0 win against the Braves. In game two last Sunday afternoon, he finished with a hit to extend his on-base streak to 20 straight games.

    Pitcher of the Week
    Ethan Imbimbo, Mount Olive

    A 6-foor-4 right-handed pitcher, Imbimbo joined exclusive company in Mount Olive history after recording the first no-hitter since Mount Olive Hall of Famer and former MLB draft pick, Carter Capps achieved the feat against Coker in 2011. Imbimbo pitched seven innings on 88 pitches and tallied six strikeouts and zero walks while facing the minimum 21 batters in an 11-0 win over No. 21 ranked UNC Pembroke on Thursday night.

    Making the transition from reliever to starter this season, Imbimbo boasts an impressive 5-0 record on the mound with 32 strikeouts and 14 walks over 37.1 innings pitched. He has held his opponents to a .189 batting average this season, which leads Conference Carolinas this season.

  • Athlete of the Week
    Ryann Swope, Lander

    Swope had a monumental impact this week in our win over Belmont Abbey College, the first in program history over the Crusaders as the Bearcats set a season-high score in the process. In the compulsory event, the junior competes in all four heats, helping the Bearcats post scores of 8.80 in acro, 9.50 in pyramid, 9.45 in toss and 8.20 in tumbling. In the acro event, Swope scored pretty consistently on her 5 element acro, scoring a 9.65 out of 10.00 and scoring an 8.80 out of a 9.85 in 6 element. In the acro event, Lander edged Belmont Abbey as the first event won.

    In the pyramid event, Swope helped the Bearcats in the duo pyramid with a score a 9.6 out of 10.00, beating out Belmont Abbey by a tenth. Swope then contributed to a pair of great scores in the toss event, scoring a 9.25 out of 9.4 in the back salto toss and an 8.55 out of 9.40 in the duo toss. Lander ended the toss event with almost a three-point lead. The Bearcats clinched the meet in the tumbling event as Swope contributed to scores of 8.85 out of 9.40 in the duo tumbling pass 9.60 out of 10.00 in her solo tumbling pass.

    Specialist of the Week
    Amanda Schnelker, Limestone

    Schnelker is a top within the pyramid event in both the inversion and open pyramid for the Saints as she led Limestone to a pair of outstanding scores this past week. Each pyramid starts at a 10.0 start value where she scored a 9.7 in the inversion pyramid and a 10.0 in the open pyramid. The junior performs two different top positions within each heat, an extended hand-to-hand position in inversion and a vertical pike position in open pyramid. She helped lead the team to their first perfect score this season in the open pyramid.
