Barton, Francis Marion and Lees-McRae Advance to Quarterfinals of 2024 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Championship

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The second round of the 2024 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Championship saw Barton, Francis Marion and Lees-McRae all advance to the quarterfinals.
 
Fourth-seeded Francis Marion scored over 40 points in each half to collect an 82-66 victory over ninth-seeded Belmont Abbey. Four finished in double figures for Francis Marion with both Adonis Cole and Marlow Gilmore Jr. ending their efforts with 18 points. Mason Taylor and DJ Holloway both finished with 15 points to lead Belmont Abbey in its season-ending loss.
 
Fifth-seeded Barton led by only two at the halftime break, but the Bulldogs pulled away from 11th-seeded King in the second half to emerge with an 89-77 victory. Jett Fortuny of Barton led all scorers in the game with 26. Mikhail Pocknett was the top performer for King in its season-ending loss with a double-double in 21 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Sixth-seeded Lees-McRae held off a late rally from 12th-seeded North Greenville to advance to the quarterfinals. North Greenville outscored Lees-McRae, 44-38, in the second half, but the Bobcats held strong in the final moments of the game to secure a 79-75 victory. Ja'Quavian Florence finished with 20 points to lead Lees-McRae. North Greenville was led by 16 points by Caleb Williams.
 
The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals of the Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Championship will be held at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The men’s final will feature a 1 p.m. tipoff on March 10, while the women’s final is scheduled for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
 
The Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Basketball Championships will also feature the Spirit Championships for the third consecutive year, which includes being held in the main arena of Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium for the second straight year. The Spirit Championships are scheduled for the morning of Saturday, March 9.
