Conference Carolinas Tuesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Mia Zuniga, Belmont Abbey

    A junior from Springs, Texas, Mia Zuniga of Belmont Abbey posted the top time in the 800m this season with a time of 2:25.37 at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational. 

    Zuniga also recorded the third-best time in Conference Carolinas in the 1,500 with a time of 5:01.11. 

    Field Athlete of the Week
    Adrienne Crawford, Mount Olive

    A junior from Middlesboro, Kentucky, Adrienne Crawford of Mount Olive was the only athlete in the NCAA Division II to hit the NCAA Provisional Standard in the hammer throw while competing at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational this past weekend. She registered a first-place finish after a personal record of 53.38 meters on her second attempt, which is the third-best mark in Mount Olive women's track & field program history.

    Additionally, Crawford set a new personal record in the discus with a toss of 42.21 meters on her fourth attempt to place third overall while setting the fourth-best mark all-time at UMO. She also finished seventh overall in the shot put with a mark of 11.04 meters.

    Crawford set league qualifying marks in all three events while boasting the top mark in the conference in both the hammer and discus.

  • Track Athlete of the Week
    Timothy Richardson, Mount Olive

    A freshman from Raleigh, North Carolina, Timothy Richardson of Mount Olive produced the fastest time this season in Conference Carolinas in the 400 meters at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational, the opening event of the outdoor campaign.

    Richardson posted a fifth-place finish in the event with a time of 50.26 seconds.

    Field Athlete of the Week
    Sigursteinn Asgeirsson, Mount Olive

    A native of Borgasetriô, Iceland, Sigursteinn Asgeirsson of Mount Olive hit the league qualifying standard and placed second overall in the shot put while competing in the UNCW Seahawk Invitational. In a field of nearly 30 competitors, the freshman finished runner-up following a toss of 16.02 meters, which ranks second all-time at Mount Olive.

    Asgeirsson currently holds the top mark in the Southeast Region in the event.

  • Player of the Week
    Chloe Locklear, UNC Pembroke

    A redshirt freshman from Pembroke, North Carolina, Chloe Locklear of UNC Pembroke finished last week hitting .444 with eight hits on the week while also starting all six games behind the plate. 

    Locklear had three extra-base hits on two doubles and one home run. She drove in two runs and registered three walks, while also stealing a base. Locklear also scored four runs on the week. 

    Pitcher of the Week
    Alyssa Poston, Francis Marion

    A sophomore from Hartsville, South Carolina, Alyssa Poston of Francis Marion went an impressive 2-0 in the circle with a 1.11 ERA in four appearances last week. 

    In her 12.2 innings in the circle last week, Poston allowed only five hits while striking out 13 and walking just one. Her opponents hit just .119 against her last week. 

    Poston registered her second no-hitter of the season last week in an 8-0 victory in five innings over Catawba. She allowed only one base runner and struck out 17. She also saved the second game of the doubleheader against Catawba by getting the final out on one pitch to leave the bases loaded.  

    Poston leads all of Conference Carolinas in the circle with a .169 opposing batting average. She has now claimed weekly honors in back-to-back weeks.

    Week 5 (March 5, 2024)

    Player of the Week: Chloe Locklear, UNC Pembroke

    Pitcher of the Week: Alyssa Poston, Francis Marion

    David Lewis, North Greenville

    A junior infielder, David Lewis of North Greenville continued his torrid start to the 2024 season by hitting .563 in four games last week. Lewis slugged 1.000 and he had an on-base percentage of .632. 

    Lewis ended his efforts in the four games with nine RBIs and eight runs scored. He also had three extra-base hits on two home runs and one double. 

    Lewis has now claimed Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks. He leads Conference Carolinas in slugging (1.057) and OPS (1.609). He is also first in hits (33) and RBIs (38). His 10 home runs is also tied for the best in NCAA Division II and leads Conference Carolinas. 

    Pitcher of the Week
    Reece Fields, North Greenville

    A graduate student from West Columbia, South Carolina, Reece Fields of North Greenville made history in a 10-0 game two victory over Southern Wesleyan on March 2. Fields threw a no-hitter in the seven-inning victory. 

    Fields struck out 15 and only walked one batter in the North Greenville victory. The 15 strikeouts are a single-game best in Conference Carolinas so far this season. 

    Fields has collected weekly honors now twice in the 2024 season. He leads Conference Carolinas in ERA (0.79), opponent batting average (.114), innings pitched (34.0) and strikeouts (48). He also leads Conference Carolinas in wins with a perfect 5-0 record.

    Week 5 (March 5, 2024)

    Player of the Week: David Lewis, North Greenville

  • Athlete of the Week
    Ryann Swope, Lander

    A junior top/tumbler from Twin Falls, Idaho, Ryann Swope of Lander had a standout meet in a team win over 14th-ranked Converse. 

    In the compulsory event, Swope helped the Bearcats score a 35.7/40. In the acro event, Swope scored a 9.6/10.0, beating Converse's score of 8.4 to earn Lander over a point lead in the 5 element acro by performing a skill that she is the only person performing in the NCATA. 

    Lander also came out on top of the acro event by scoring over two points higher than Converse. In the pyramid event, Swope helped the Bearcats score a 9.55/10 over Converse's 7.5/10 to increase the separation between the team scores. In the toss event, Swope scored an impressive 9.7/9.9 in the 450 salto pass to give Lander a half a point advantage over Converse, who scored a 9.2. In the tumbling event, Swope scored a 9.6/10.0 in her aerial tumbling pass to best Converse's score of a 9.475 in the heat. 

    In the team event, Swope's contributions allowed Lander to score a 90.34 to gain the overall team win over Converse, 259.29-255.745.

    Specialist of the Week
    Morgan Bramble, Limestone

    A junior base/tumbler from Fairfax, Virginia, Morgan Bramble of Limestone competed in all three pyramids in a tri-meet team win for seventh-ranked Limestone over Francis Marion and King. She scored a 9.4 and above in all three events.  

    Bramble competed as a main base and a mid base within all heats. In the inversion pyramid, she was a main base in which Limestone scored a 9.8. In the synchronized pyramid, Bramble was a main base, scoring a 9.45  In the open pyramid, Bramble helped by being the mid base, scoring a 9.8. Limestone earned a 29.05/30.0 with the help of Bramble in the pyramid event.
