Track Athlete of the Week
Channie Jefferson, Mount Olive
A sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, Jefferson competed in a total of four events over the weekend while being part of two NCAA marks on the relay teams.
At the Trojans Relays on Friday, she captured the event title in the 400-meter hurdles after crossing the line with a season-best time of 1:02.47, which ranks second in the Conference Carolinas this season. She also qualified in the long jump with a season-best distance of 5.63 meters to record a second-place finish.
At the Duke Invitational, the 4x100 relay team of freshman Kiara Campbell, sophomore Chianel Asoburuenwu, junior Lasira Nicholson, and Jefferson placed fifth overall with a time of 46.34 seconds to hit the NCAA Standard and the top mark in the Conference Carolinas this season. In the 4x400 relay, the squad of senior Vinesha Briggs, senior Natalyah Wilson, Asoburuenwu, and Jefferson recorded an eighth-place finish and an NCAA provisional mark after crossing the line at 3:47.12, which is the fastest time in the league.
Field Athlete of the Week
Adrienne Crawford, Mount Olive
A junior from Middlesboro, Kentucky, Crawford competed in three events at The Trojan Relays and registered a pair of podium finishes this week. She improved her NCAA mark with a toss of 56.41 meters in the hammer throw to earn the event victory while moving up to ninth in NCAA Division II in the event.
Additionally, Crawford placed second overall in the discus with a distance of 39.69 meters. She also delivered a career-best mark in the javelin with a toss of 28.06 meters to take sixth place.
