Erskine claims developmental baseball championship
FLORENCE, S.C. – The Conference Carolinas Developmental Baseball Championship concluded on Monday with three exciting contests. Erskine outlasted Southern Wesleyan 12-11 to take the championship.
In game one, Southern Wesleyan jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings, but Francis Marion came back to even the score at 7-7 following a four-run fifth inning and a single run in the sixth inning. Southern Wesleyan scored one run in the top of the seventh and held off a Francis Marion rally to take the contest 9-8.
In the second semifinal, Barton took a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning, but the Erskine offense got hot. The Flying Fleet scored four runs in the seventh inning and got the final three outs to take the contest 5-4.
Erskine kept the offense going, starting the championship with three runs in each of the first two innings, and five in the third to take an 11-0 lead. The teams traded runs in the bottom of the third and top of the fourth innings to give Erskine a 12-1 lead. Southern Wesleyan then got the offense going, scoring in the final four innings, starting with five runs in the sixth. The Warriors then scored two in the seventh and eighth innings before plating one run in the ninth before the Flying Fleet got the final out to take the contest 12-11.
Logan Palma was selected as the championship MVP.
