Four teams remain after first two days of 2024 Softball Championship

DUNCAN, S.C. –
The second day of the 2024 Conference Carolinas Softball Championship saw top two seeds Francis Marion and North Greenville cruise into the semifinals while Barton and Emmanuel fought through the losers bracket.

Top seed Francis Marion started the day with a 9-1 win over fourth seed Young Harris. The Patriots scored five runs in the first inning and added two in each the fifth and sixth innings to take the contest. Madalyn White, Emily Konz and Katie Smith all posted three hits for the Patriots with Konz driving in three.

Second seed North Greenville was as impressive in a 12-4 win over third seed Mount Olive. The Crusaders plated four runs in the second and six in a third inning that was highlighted by a grand slam from Lexie Gunter. North Greenville added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to take the contest. Maddie Stone, Ansley Fowler and Karley Green all recorded two hits.

Fifth seed Emmanuel and ninth seed Barton survived two elimination games to advance to Saturday. Emmanuel topped seventh seed Southern Wesleyan 10-4 after scoring five runs in the opening inning. Southern Wesleyan came back and pulled within 5-4, but the Crusaders scored three runs in the fourth and two in the sixth to advance. Kelley Feigen went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two runs batted in.

The Lions then took an 8-0 win over Mount Olive behind a one-hit shutout from Macy Kelley and Maddie Edwards. Kelley tossed the first two and two-thirds innings before Edwards didn’t allow a hit over the final four and one-thirds innings.

Barton played a pair of tight contests, sneaking past 11th seed Belmont Abbey and Young Harris. The Bulldogs scored runs in each of the first two innings before added runs in the fifth and sixth innings to hold on for the 4-2 win over Belmont Abbey. The next contest against Young Harris went to the sixth inning with no score before Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning. Barton took the lead in the seventh with a bases loaded hit by pitch and sacrifice fly before a Kandyce Condrey two-run double gave the Bulldogs the 4-1 win. Condrey went 3-for-4 in the contest to lead Barton.

Saturday of the 2024 Conference Carolinas Softball Championship starts with an elimination game between Barton and Emmanuel at 12:00 p.m. The winner will then face the loser of the 2:00 p.m. game, Francis Marion and North Greenville. The final contest on Saturday is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
