Mount Olive captures first Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse title

WILSON, N.C. – Mount Olive won their first-ever Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse championship in thrilling fashion on Sunday. The Trojans needed overtime to defeat Belmont Abbey 12-11.
In what was a defensive battle, top seed Mount Olive and second seed Belmont Abbey finished the first quarter even at 3-3. Mount Olive then scored three straight goals, two from Matthew Ateshian to take a 7-5 lead at halftime.
Belmont Abbey pulled within 8-7 going to the fourth quarter, but the Trojans scored the first goal of the period to regain a two-goal advantage. The Crusaders responded with four straight goals, the last two from Davis McCulley to take an 11-9 lead with 3:55 remaining. Mount Olive then scored two goals in the final 3:10, the second with 44 seconds remaining from Hudson Karasek to send the game to overtime knotted at 11-11.
In overtime, Mount Olive’s Chapman Parker scored with 2:24 remaining to give the Trojans their first Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse Championship crown.
