Francis Marion's season ends in NCAA SE Regional final
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Francis Marion had their season come to an end on Saturday in the NCAA Southeast Regional final. The Patriots dropped a pair of contests to eighth-ranked North Georgia, 7-3 and 5-0.
In game one, host and second-seeded, North Georgia took a 2-0 lead with home runs in the first and fourth innings before adding five runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-0 lead. However, Francis Marion got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a Taylor Watford three-run home run. That was all Francis Marion was able to score as North Georgia took the contest 7-3 and forced another contest for the regional title.
North Georgia took a 1-0 lead with a run-scoring double in the second inning before taking a 4-0 lead with three runs in the fourth. The Nighthawk half of the fourth was highlighted by a two-run single. North Georgia added a run in the sixth and held the Francis Marion offense to no runs on three hits to take the contest 5-0.
Francis Marion ended the season with a 47-13 record and their second straight Conference Carolinas Softball Championship title.
