Francis Marion qualifies for NCAA Division II Softball Championship for third straight year
INDANAPOLIS – Following their second straight Conference Carolinas championship, Francis Marion has earned the third seed in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
This will mark the third straight appearance for the Patriots in the regional, and fifth in school history.
Francis Marion, 45-11, will travel to Dahlonega, Georgia to face sixth seed Columbus State. Host and second seed North Georgia will take on seventh seed Flagler in the first game of the double elimination bracket. The action will begin on Thursday, May 9 with North Georgia taking on Flagler at 2:00 p.m. before the Francis Marion-Columbus State game at 4:30 p.m.
North Georgia owns a 47-10 overall record and they won the regular season Peach Belt Conference (PBC) title while Flagler is 34-22. Columbus State won the PBC tournament title, defeating North Georgia twice and owns a 35-22 record.
The winner of the North Georgia regional will face the winner of the Wingate Regional that features the host Bulldogs, Lenoir-Rhyne, Lander and Anderson in a super regional. The super regional is scheduled for May 14-15 before the championship round from May 19-25 in Longwood, Florida.
