April 2024 Men’s Volleyball Freshman of the Month

Joseph Morris, Belmont Abbey

In four matches last month, Morris handed out 133 assists for an average of 10.23 helpers per set. He added averages of 2.15 digs, 0.69 blocks and 1.23 kills per set. He posted a double-double with 39 assists and 12 digs in a win over Queens.

April 2024 Women's Lacrosse Freshman of the Month

Caroline Clark, Mount Olive

A 5-foot-3 freshman in the midfield, Clark totaled 15 goals while tallying six caused turnovers, nine draw controls, and five ground balls, as the Trojans posted a 5-1 record with a 5-0 mark in conference play. She totaled a career-high five goals with two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls in a 24-8 win over North Greenville on April 6. Clark followed up with three straight hat tricks against Barton, Chowan, and Lees-McRae to help Mount Olive secure the regular season title and top seed in the Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship.

April 2024 Men's Lacrosse Freshman of the Month

Thomas Castiglia, Young Harris

In two wins last month, Castiglia posted a 5.75 goals against average for the Mountain Lions. He posted 31 saves, 19 coming against Emmanuel and 12 against Lees-McRae to register a .689 save percentage.

April 2024 Women’s Track & Field Freshman of the Month

Elin Rydqvist, Mount Olive

A freshman from Halmstad, Sweden, Rydqvist registered a pair of finishes on the podium and an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw in April. At the Bill Carson Invitational, she posted a career-best mark in the discus with a distance of 31.25 meters on her opening attempt and finished ninth. At the Trojan Relays on April 12-13, Rydqvist hit an NCAA mark for the first time in her career with a toss of 53.23 meters to place second overall in the hammer throw. The following weekend, she placed third overall with an impressive distance of 52.48 meters in the hammer at the highly competitive USC Outdoor Open.

Rydqvist currently ranks third in the Southeast Region in the hammer throw.

April 2024 Men’s Track & Field Freshman of the Month

Sigursteinn Asgeirsson, Mount Olive

A native of Borgasetriô, Iceland, Asgeirsson delivered four placements in the top-five overall, including an event win in the shot put at the Trojan Relays in April. At the Bill Carson Invitational, he finished second overall in the shot put with a distance of 15.68 meters while placing 10th in the discus with a mark of 37.32 meters. On April 12-13 at the Trojan Relays, Asgeirsson claimed first overall in the shot put with a toss of 16.00 meters. Additionally, he set a new career-best mark in the discus with a distance of 42.83 meters to place fourth. The following week at the USC Outdoor Open, Asgeirsson finished fourth overall in the shot put and set the best mark in the Conference Carolinas this season with a toss of 16.27 meters.

He holds the second-best mark in the Southeast Region in the shot put.

April 2024 Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Month

Miranda Noor, Lees-McRae

Noor helped Lees-McRae finish the regular season with a 6-1 record in April as the Bobcats earned a share of the Conference Carolinas regular season title for the first time since 2009. In the month,  Noor went 7-0 at No. 3 singles to end the regular season with four two-set victories and three three-set victories. In doubles she went 5-1 playing at the third flight.

Castro went a perfect 5-0 in singles play in April while playing at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. In doubles play with partner Julio Lopez, Castro posted a 4-1 record playing at the third flight.

April 2024 Women’s Golf Freshman of the Month

Ella Wiklander, Belmont Abbey

Wiklander finished tied for 21st at the Cherokee Valley Spring Invitational with rounds of 81-87—168 (+24). She and the Crusaders ‘A’ team finished third as a team in the regular season finale before the conference tournament. Also had a top 20 finish in the conference tournament that included a final round 75.

April 2024 Men’s Golf Freshman of the Month

Jack Garcia, Emmanuel

Garcia finished 60th in a deep field at the Battle at the Shores hosted by Barry in Florida. He shot eight-over for the tournament, carding rounds of 73, 74 and 74 for a tournament total of 221.

April 2024 Softball Freshman of the Month

Sage Farmer, Belmont Abbey

Farmer recorded hits in 17 of Belmont Abbey's final 18 contests, including 15 straight to close the regular season. In nine of those contests, Farmer recorded at least two hits, including three games with three hits. The Clayton, North Carolina native finished the month with a .475 batting average with 29 hits, including two doubles and one triple. She scored 17 runs and drove in four. She posted three hits in both games of a doubleheader against Lees-McRae, scoring four runs in game two before going 3-for-3 later in the month at Tusculum.

April 2024 Baseball Freshman of the Month

Jack Enrico, Young Harris

Enrico had a big final month of the season for the Mountain Lions, hitting .378 with 17 hits and eight walks. He laced six doubles and five home runs while scoring 14 runs and driving in 20 in 13 games. Enrico registered at least two hits in a game five times, including a 4-for-4 performance where he ripped two doubles and drove in six in a win over Lee. He posted at least two runs batted in five more times in the month, including two with three runs batted in.
