GREENVILLE, S.C. - The 2024 Academic All-America® Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Two Conference Carolinas student-athletes earned recognition on Tuesday.
Both Joey Rezek and Kody O’Connor of UNC Pembroke garnered honors. Rezek earned first team distinction while O’Connor garnered second team honors.
Rezek took first team honors as the senior carried a 3.78 GPA while majoring in Business Administration. Earlier this year he earned second team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). The Colfax, North Carolina native was also selected the Conference Carolinas Hudl Scholar-Athlete of the Year for baseball.
He led Conference Carolinas with a .421 batting average, which also ranked 26th nationally. He registered a league-high 83 hits, ranking him 30th in the country. Rezek also ranked fifth in NCAA Division II with 22 home runs, which also ranked second in Conference Carolinas. He finished third in the league with 76 runs batted in, which was 13th in the country. His slugging percentage of .853 was sixth in the country while his 168 total bases ranked 11th.
O’Connor took second team recognition with a 3.60 GPA while majoring in Exercise and Sports Science. Earlier this year he earned second team All-America honors for the NCBWA and third team honors from the ABCA. The senior from Lebanon, Ohio hit .362 for the Braves and ranked 21st in all of NCAA Division II with 152 total bases. He posted 70 hits, ranking him 70th in the country and third in Conference Carolinas. He laced 18 doubles and posted a slugging percentage of .714. O'Connor added 78 runs batted in, ranking him eighth in the country.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
