Six Conference Carolinas student-athletes selected CSC At-Large Academic All-America

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The 2024 Academic All-America® Men’s At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes at-large honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Six Conference Carolinas student-athletes earned recognition on Wednesday.

Conference Carolinas had six individuals recognized, three from Barton, and one each from Belmont Abbey, Chowan and Newberry.

From Barton, three men’s golfers were selected. Harrison Wierse garnered first team honors, Daniel Adkins earned second team recognition while Kris Jackson earn third team distinction. Chowan men's lacrosse player Eric George and Newberry men’s wrestler John Parker also earned second team honors while Belmont Abbey men’s volleyball player Matthew Staskunas earned third team recognition.

Wierse was selected Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year presented by Hudl for men’s golf. The graduate student carried a 4.00 GPA while taking graduate courses in Business Administration and graduated with 3.93 GPA as an undergraduate. On the golf course, he was selected Conference Carolinas Men’s Golfer of the Year and garnered all-tournament team honors. The Wilmington, North Carolina native then finished fifth in the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional.

Adkins, a junior, carries a 3.99 GPA while majoring in Political Science. The Holly Springs, North Carolina native earned second team All-Conference Carolinas and all-tournament team honors. He finished 22nd at the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional.

George, senior from Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada, carried a 3.97 GPA while majoring in Sport Management. He was selected the Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year presented by Hudl for men's lacrosse and earned first team All-Conference Carolinas honors.

Jackson recorded an undergraduate GPA of 3.88 before registering a 4.00 GPA in graduate school studying Business Administration this year. The Greenville, North Carolina native earned second team All-Conference Carolinas and all-tournament team honors this season.

Parker, a junior, carries a 3.97 GPA while majoring in mathematics. The Yulee, Florida native earned the Conference Carolinas Elite 23 award presented by McGriff Insurance for men’s wrestling this season. He also garnered second team All-Conference Carolinas honors at 197 pounds. Parker won the NCAA Super Region II championship at 197 pounds and qualified for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships.

Staskunas carries a 3.65 GPA while majoring in Sport Management. The junior was tabbed Conference Carolinas Offensive Player of the Year, first team all-conference and tournament MVP this season. He was also selected Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athlete of the Year presented by Hudl for men’s volleyball. The New Berlin, Wisconsin native also garnered honorable mention All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

Reminder that in the At-Large sports category, schools from one division might compete in a different division in a particular sport (i.e, ice hockey), so student-athletes are listed in the DIVISION of their sport, not necessarily in their institution's main NCAA division.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
