PEMBROKE, N.C. – The final preliminary site of 2025 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Championship was completed on Sunday as UNC Pembroke advanced to the final site.
No. 7 Shorter def. No. 12 Barton 3-1
Shorter got off to a good start, taking the opening set 25-18, but Barton responded with 25-20 second-set win. The Hawks responded by hitting .240 and taking the third set 25-13. Shorter then fought off one set point in the fourth set before scoring three straight to take the set 28-26 and the match 3-1.
Victoria Sparks led Shorter with 15 kills and eight digs while Caroline Sivills followed with 12 kills and Taylor Reese Howell added 10 kills. Brooke Thao posted 23 assists and 12 digs. Bailey McIntyre led Barton with 17 kills and 14 digs. Kylie Simpson led the way with 24 digs and added 10 assists.
No. 6 UNC Pembroke def. No. 7 Shorter 3-1
UNC Pembroke owned the service line in the match, posting 10 aces while holding Shorter to only two. The Braves took the opening two sets 25-17 and 25-18 before the Shorter offense posted a big third set. The Hawks hit .341, winning the third set 25-15. UNC Pembroke fought back to take the fourth set 25-18 behind a .212 attack percentage to take the match 3-1.
Savannah Whaley led the Braves with 13 kills and 13 digs while Tyler Patterson handed out 31 assists. McKenna Hayes chipped in with 12 kills and Abby Peduzzi posted 13 digs. Victoria Sparks led Shorter with 15 kills and 15 digs.
UNC Pembroke will play third seed Emmanuel University in the second quarterfinal on Friday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Bristol, Tennessee.
