BRISTOL, Tenn. – Both quarterfinals of the 2025 Conference Carolinas Women’s Volleyball Championship went five sets with North Greenville University and Emmanuel University advancing.
No. 4 North Greenville def. No. 8 Southern Wesleyan 3-2
In what was a defensive back-and-forth affair, Southern Wesleyan jumped ahead winning the first set 25-21. The Warriors held of a North Greenville run before scoring five of the final six points, including the final three points. North Greenville responded with a 10-0 run that broke the second set open as the Trailblazers evened the match with the 25-17 victory.
In the third set, it was Southern Wesleyan that had an answer, riding a 12-3 run to a 25-22 victory. Momentum shifted again in the fourth set as North Greenville again used a run in the middle of the set to gain control. The Trailblazers scored six straight points to gain separation in the 25-14 victory that forced a fifth set. The teams traded points in the final set before consecutive North Greenville gave the Trailblazers a lead. North Greenville then scored three of the final four points to take the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
Samantha Ball led North Greenville with 22 kills and 17 digs while Peyton Taylor added 10 kills and 16 digs. Macie Gentry added 20 digs while Allison handed out 30 assists and added 10 digs.
Southern Wesleyan was led by 12 kills and seven digs from Kaylon Chapman and 10 kills from Karson Haley. Calie Covey posted 29 digs.
North Greenville now faces top seed Francis Marion University on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the first semifinal.
No. 3 Emmanuel def. No. 6 UNC Pembroke 3-2
Emmanuel got off to a hot start, taking the first set 25-13 behind a .365 attack percentage. However, UNC Pembroke fought back, taking the second set 25-23 behind a .309 attack percentage. The Brave offense stayed hot in the third set, hitting .311, but Emmanuel kept the set close throughout. UNC Pembroke used a 6-3 run to take a 24-23 lead as the teams then traded points. UNC Pembroke eventually took the set 30-28.
Emmanuel bounced back in the four set, using a 4-0 run gain separation in the middle of the set. The Lions then held off a 3-0 run late from UNC Pembroke to take the set 25-22, forcing a fifth set. The Lions jumped ahead 4-1, but the Braves came back to even the score and take a 7-6 lead with a 4-0 spurt. Emmanuel fought back and scored four of the final five points, including the last three points to take the set 16-14 and the match 3-2.
Ellie Jackson led Emmanuel with 17 kills and 26 digs while Faith Kelly added 12 kills. Marusa Pesut handed out 46 assists and added 31 digs.
For UNC Pembroke, Abby Peduzzi led the way with 27 kills and 30 digs while Addie Decker followed with 22 kills. Tyler Patterson handed out 40 assists and added 10 digs.
Emmanuel advances to take on second seed Converse University at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
