Erskine wins Conference Carolinas Developmental Men's Basketball championship

BELMONT, N.C. –
Erskine College won the Conference Carolinas Developmental Men’s Basketball Championship for the second straight season on Monday when they defeated Lees-McRae College in the championship game.

Following semifinal wins, Erskine and Lees-McRae met for the championship with the Flying Fleet taking the 91-63 win for their second straight crown. KD Gordon led the way with 20 points for Erskine while Kyale Lindsay followed with 19 points. Chris Kitchings led Lees-McRae with 20 points while Dylan Casado followed with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Lindsay was named the tournament’s MVP.

In the first semifinal, Lees-McRae topped Southern Wesleyan University 94-80 as the Bobcats had three scorers in double figures, including two over 20 points. Kitchings led the way with 27 points while Casado followed with 21 points. Calvin Ross added 15 points. The Warriors had four scorers in double figures, led by Je’hvonni Hogan’s 22 points. Jackson Moore followed with 17 points while Riley Edmiston and Logan Hockaday added 15 and 14 points, respectively.

In the second semifinal, Erskine slipped past Barton College 86-76. Mike Baker led five Flying Fleet scorers in double figures with 19 points while Josh Smith followed with 14 points. Valerian Bruce added 13 points while Lindsay and Malik Reynolds scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.

In the 2024-25 season Conference Carolinas is scheduled to host a developmental championship in men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s volleyball men’s wrestling, men’s basketball, men’s volleyball and baseball. The developmental teams will be composed of student-athletes that have either not competed at the varsity level in 2024-25 or have competed sparingly at the varsity level by the time of the championship.
