GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lander University claimed their second straight Conference Carolinas men’s wrestling title with a pair of wins at the 2025 Conference Carolinas Men’s Wrestling Championship on Sunday.
12th-ranked Lander captured their second straight Conference Carolinas Men’s Wrestling crown. The Bearcats topped King University in the championship dual 34-10. Lander earned took a 15-0 lead after three bouts behind a pair of falls. Following a pair of King wins, the nation’s top-ranked wrestler at 165 pounds, David Hunsberger extended the Bearcat lead to 20-7 with a technical fall victory.
Lander clinched the win when Anthony Giampietro came up with a reversal to pin at 184 pounds to give the Bearcats a 26-10 lead. Lander then won the final two bouts to take the dual 34-10.
West Division top-seed and defending champion, Lander got off to a hot start in the semifinal, defeating East Division second seed Belmont Abbey 29-13. The team alternated wins through the first four weight classes before back-to-back Bearcat wins. Lander closed out the win with consecutive major decisions at 197 and 285 pounds.
In the second semifinal, Mount Olive opened up a 12-0 lead with wins at the first three bouts before back-to-back King wins. Following another Trojan victory, King rolled off three straight wins starting with a technical fall at 174 pounds to take an 18-15 lead. Nathan Coley of King then earned a 2-1 win in overtime to give King the 21-15 victory.
Mount Olive then topped Belmont Abbey in the third place bout 44-4. The Trojans won the first six matches and the final three to take the dual.
