Three Conference Carolinas teams to compete at NCAA Women's Basketball Southeast Regional

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas is sending three teams to the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship that starts play on Friday. The Southeast Regional will be held at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, Georgia from Friday, March 14 through Monday, March 17.

Three of the four first round games will feature Conference Carolinas squads as seventh seed Belmont Abbey College will take the floor first at 2:30 p.m. against second seed Coker University. Belmont Abbey is 25-5 on the season while the Cobras own a 26-5 mark and are ranked 21st in the WBCA poll and 17th in the D2CSC poll. Belmont Abbey, who is currently receiving votes in both polls, won the Conference Carolinas tournament title for the seventh time and were crowned Northwest Division champions while Coker won the regular season South Atlantic Conference (SAC) title and finished runner-up in the tournament.

UNC Pembroke will be the eighth seed and take on host and top seed North Georgia at 5:00 p.m. The Braves earned a share of the East Division title and are 22-8 on the season after falling in overtime in the Conference Carolinas quarterfinals. North Georgia won both the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) regular season and tournament crowns and enter the regional with a record of 29-2. The Nighthawks are ranked sixth in the WBCA poll and fifth in the D2CSC poll.

Fourth seed Francis Marion University faces fifth seed Columbus State University in the final quarterfinal at 7:30 p.m. The Patriots won a share of the East Division title and finished runner-up in the Conference Carolinas tournament. Francis Marion owns a record of 23-6 and is receiving votes in the D2CSC poll while Columbus State is 20-8 on the season. The Cougars finished runner-up to North Georgia in the regular season standings and fell in the PBC quarterfinals.

The other quarterfinal takes place at 12:00 p.m. and features sixth seed Carson-Newman University and third seed Anderson University.
The semifinal contests will take place at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with the winners of Carson-Newman-Anderson and Belmont Abbey-Coker squaring off at 5:00 p.m. and the winners of the UNC Pembroke-North Georgia and Columbus State-Francis Marion facing off at 7:30 p.m.
