INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Conference Carolinas finished the 2025 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships with six All-America honorees, including back-to-back national champion David Hunsberger of Lander University. The Bearcats led the way, finishing fourth in the team standings.
Hunsberger went 4-0 on the weekend, taking wins by fall and major decision on Friday. He then earned a 4-2 win over St. Cloud State University’s Nick Novak to reach the championship bout on Saturday night. In that bout, he took a 10-2 major decision over Lake Erie College’s Jack Haskin.
Hunsberger becomes the first Conference Carolinas men’s wrestler with multiple national championships and it is the third individual national champion for Lander. Zeth Brower earned a crown in 2022. The title is also the fifth in Conference Carolinas history and third since men’s wrestling became solely sponsored by Conference Carolinas. The first two came as part of the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas.
Lander’s Christian Davis finished third at 133 pounds, defeated Ouachita Baptist University’s James Anderson on a 19-6 major decision in the third-place bout.
Brennan Watkins of King University also finished third as he topped Western Colorado University’s Dean Noble 9-8 in the 149-pound third-place match.
At 141 pounds, Lander’s Isham Peach finished sixth and Belmont Abbey College’s Luke Kunath finished eighth.
Marvelous Rutledge of Lander finished seventh at 197 pounds, finishing with a win 4-1 sudden victory-1 over St. Cloud State’s Dominic Murphy.
