Top seeds advance to quarterfinals of 2025 Atlantic Casualty Insurance Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship

The 2025 Atlantic Casualty Insurance Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Championship saw the top seeds all advance on Monday evening. UNC Pembroke, Shorter University and Young Harris College all won their second-round contests on their home courts.

No. 4 UNC Pembroke defeats No. 9 Barton 84-35
UNC Pembroke shot 50.0 percent in the first quarter to open up a 21-0 lead after the opening 10 minutes. The Braves then scored the first points of the second quarter, to cap a 23-0 run to start the game. UNC Pembroke improved on that mark, shooting 57.1 percent in the second quarter to hold a 39-13 lead at halftime. The Braves didn’t slow down in the second half, taking the contest 84-35.

Natalie Evington led five UNC Pembroke scorers in double figures with 24 points while Zaria Clark followed with 19 points and seven rebounds. Anastasia Sinclair posted 16 points and eight rebounds, and Kelci Adams added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Russell chipped in with 10 points. Lauren Mingo led Barton with 12 points and five rebounds.

UNC Pembroke advances to the quarterfinals and will face fifth seed Young Harris at 11:00 a.m. in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

No. 5 Young Harris defeats No. 8 King 54-47
The first quarter was tight with Young Harris holding a 15-12 lead. The Mountain Lions scored the first 11 points of the second quarter to open up a 26-12 lead before the Tornado answered with five straight points. Young Harris scored the final points of the quarter to lead 29-17 at the half. The Young Harris advantage remained the same before the Mountain Lions used an 8-0 run to take a 49-29 lead early in the fourth quarter. King chipped away at the deficit and used a 10-0 run to pull within seven. It wasn’t enough as Young Harris won the contest 54-47.

Annalise Malone led Young Harris with 16 points and seven rebounds while Courtney Davis followed with 11 points. King was led by 12 points and 11 rebounds from Mariya Williams and 12 points from Jaelyn West.

Young Harris advances to the quarterfinals and will face fourth seed UNC Pembroke on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

No. 6 Shorter defeats No. 12 North Greenville 53-36
North Greenville got off to a hot start and led 14-13 after the first quarter. Shorter responded by scoring the first nine points of the second quarter, opening up a 22-14 lead. The Hawks extended their lead, and held a 34-22 advantage at the half. The Shorter defense clamped down in the second half, allowing only four points in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth quarter to take the game 53-36.

Tiara Lewis led Shorter with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Tori Smiley added 11 points. Abi Oates led North Greenville with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Shorter advances to the quarterfinals and will face third seed Chowan University at 1:30 p.m. in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
