Young Harris, Chowan advance to 2025 Atlantic Casualty Insurance Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship semifinals

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2025 Atlantic Casualty Insurance Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Championship quarterfinals started with a Young Harris College win in overtime before Chowan University used a late run to advance to the semifinals.

No. 5 Young Harris defeats No. 4 UNC Pembroke 75-67 (OT)
UNC Pembroke scored the first five points of the contest, but Young Harris responded with five straight and later took a 14-9 lead. The Mountain Lions let 18-14 after the first quarter, but the Braves fought back and evened the score at 26 in the second quarter. UNC Pembroke later scored the final four points of the half to take a 32-28 lead at the break.

UNC Pembroke extended their lead to 35-28  before the Mountain Lions came back with 10 straight points to take a 38-35 lead. Young Harris held a 46-45 lead going to the fourth quarter, and needed another late run in the fourth quarter. The Mountain Lions scored four points in the final minute, including a basket from Kamryn Bates with 16 seconds left to tie the game at 59 and send the contest to overtime.

The teams traded baskets in the early going be a triple from Young Harris’ Ivona Miljanic gave Young Harris a 66-65 lead. Young Harris then converted at the free throw line to take the win 75-67.

Miljanic led Young Harris with 23 points while Bates and Annalise Malone added 18 points apiece. Malone added nine rebounds while Parahuia Delamere scored eight points to go along with 14 rebounds. Kelci Adams led five UNC Pembroke scorers in double figures with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Young Harris takes on top seed Francis Marion University at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

No. 3 Chowan defeats No. 6 Shorter 57-52
Chowan got off a hot start, taking a 13-4 lead after the opening 10 minutes as they held Shorter to 13.3 percent shooting from the floor. Shorter came back in the second half of the second period with a 12-2 run, including 10 straight. However, Chowan still led 26-22 at the break. Shorter evened the score at 28 before the teams traded baskets as the game went to the fourth quarter even at 35. Shorter led 42-39 before a 10-0 Chowan lead gave the Hawks a 49-42 lead with four minutes remaining. Chowan held that lead to take the contest 57-52.

Nyeshia Savage led Chowan with 13 points and 15 rebounds while Yasmine Brown and Danea Mackey added 10 points apiece. Tiara Lewis posted 13 points and 18 rebounds for Shorter while Emariah Grant led the way with 17 points.

Chowan will face second seed Belmont Abbey College at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday.
