DUNCAN, S.C. – The opening day of the 2025 Conference Carolinas Softball Championship featured a no hitter and three upsets. Haileigh Boone of Chowan University tossed a no hitter while North Greenville University and Emmanuel University posted upset wins.
Boone struck out five and walked one, only facing one batter over the minimum in Chowan’s 8-0 win over 12th seed Shorter University. The fifth-seeded Hawks scored three runs in the third and ended the game with five runs in the sixth to advance into the double elimination portion of the bracket.
Chowan then jumped ahead of fourth seed, the University of Mount Olive with a run in the top of the first. However, the Trojans came back with four runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Following a Chowan run in the third, Mount Olive broke took a 7-2 lead with three runs in the fourth inning. Mount Olive then ended the 10-2 victory with three runs in the fifth
Eighth seed North Greenville played their way into the double elimination portion of the bracket with a 2-1 win over ninth seed Young Harris College. Lexie Metcalf hit a two-run home run for the Trailblazers in the fourth inning to give North Greenville the win.
The Trailblazers followed that win with another win, defeating top seed Francis Marion University who is ranked second in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll. The Trailblazers scored a pair in the first before Francis Marion came back with one run in the first and two in the second to take a 3-2 lead.
North Greenville evened the score in the fifth inning before Maddie Stone drove in Karley Green in the top of the seventh. Kylie Rast made that standup, leaving the Patriots’ tying run on third in the seventh to give North Greenville the win.
Emmanuel, the 10th seed came back to defeat seventh seed King University to earn their way into the double elimination portion of the bracket. The Lions plated three unearned runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Tornado 3-2.
The Lions kept the momentum going as they topped second seed UNC Pembroke later in the day. Emmanuel scored a run on a wild pitch in the third inning and Cassidy Jenkins made that standup in the circle as she only allowed four hits in the contest.
Sixth seed, Southern Wesleyan University topped 11th seed Converse University to earn their way into the double elimination portion of the bracket. The Warriors plated one run in the first, and three in the third before Converse took a 5-4 lead with two runs in the fifth inning. Southern Wesleyan then scored five runs in the sixth to take the contest 9-5.
Southern Wesleyan then faced third seed Barton College and trailed 4-1 after the fourth inning. The Bulldogs then led 6-2 before Southern Wesleyan scored four runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at six. The score remained the same until Savannah Olson hit bases loaded single up the middle with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Barton the 7-6 win.
