Belmont Abbey captures 2025 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Championship title

SUMTER, S.C. – Belmont Abbey College won their fourth straight Conference Carolinas Men’s Tennis Championship titleon Sunday, at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina, defeating Converse University 4-3.

Second seed Converse won the doubles point with wins at the second and third flights. Leopold Morel and Marty Letessier earned a 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 doubles while Ben Hyde-Smith and Manuel Roncero took a 7-5 win at the third flight.

The top-seeded Crusaders then turned in a stellar singles performance as Marcus Bergelin earned a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles and Jackson Korta took a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory at the fifth flight. Richard Norvell won his No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-3 to even the tally at 3-3 with the Valkyries.

At No. 2 doubles, Peru Bayo of Belmont Abbey won the first set 6-2, but Converse’s Stanley Waters took the second 6-4. Bayo then gave Belmont Abbey the win with a 6-2 victory in the third set.

The title give Belmont Abbey their fourth Conference Carolinas title, all coming in the last four years.

Belmont Abbey earns the automatic bit into the NCAA Division II Men’s Tennis Championship. The selections will be announced on NCAA.com on Monday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m.
