Mount Olive wins fifth straight Conference Carolinas Women's Lacrosse Championship crown

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – In what was a tight title contest of the 2025 Conference Carolinas Women’s Lacrosse Championship, second-seeded University of Mount Olive defeated top seed Belmont Abbey College to earn their fifth straight tournament title.

The teams traded goals to start the game before the Crusaders scored three straight to take a 4-1 lead. However, Mount Olive answered with three straight to make the score 4-4 after the opening 15 minutes. Mount Olive scored three straight goals in the second quarter, but Belmont Abbey netted a pair to knot the score at 7-7 at halftime.

In the second half, Belmont Abbey took a 9-7 lead with back-to-back goals, and later led 11-9 before consecutive Trojan tallies evened the score at 11 going to the fourth quarter. Mount Olive scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter and the Crusaders couldn’t recover as the Trojans held that lead and took the contest 18-14.

For the Trojans, the crown marks their fifth straight and sixth in program history.

Mount Olive earns the automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The selections will be announced on Sunday, May 4 at 8:30 p.m.
