FLORENCE, SC - Francis Marion University shut out Wingate 7-0 today in the NCAA DII Southeast Sub-Regional of women's softball to advance as well as host the Super Regional May 15-16.
The Patriots are the No. 1 seed in the Southeast Regional and are the No. 2 ranked team in NCAA DII. Their 52 wins are the most ever for a Conference Carolinas member and by record books, they become the first Conference Carolinas member to host a NCAA DII Super Regional.
Francis Marion (52-4) scored a run in the second and third innings to have a little breathing room, while breaking it open with five runs over the last three innings.
The Sub-Regional star of Madalyn White had another outstanding performance going three-for-four from the plate and driving in three runs today. Third baseman Peyton Gale went two-for-three from the plate with a run batted in.
Jenna Walling pitched the final 4.2 innings to pick up her 19th win of the year. She gave up one hit and three walks in facing 18 batters.
Francis Marion will await the winner of the North Georgia vs. Lenoir Rhyne games today to see who they will play next week.
Wingate falls to 39-23.
