ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The Belmont Abbey men's tennis team saw its season come to an end as the Crusaders battled with No. 1 seed Flagler Friday in the first round of the NCAA Southeast Regional at the Pollard Tennis Center.
The Crusaders took the doubles point from the Saints but Flagler responded to earn a 4-2 win over the Abbey.
Nicholas Cary and Cameron Simpson earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles while Tim Stemler and Noelle Andrey Ampong earned a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles. Additionally, Ricard Novell won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1 singles over a Top 50 Division II player in Baptiste Mercier.
This was the fourth straight season that Belmont Abbey had reached the NCAA Tournament.
With Friday's result, Belmont Abbey finishes the season at 22-17 overall while Flagler is now 20-2 and advances to face the winner of Lincoln Memorial-Columbus State on Saturday.
