GREENVILLE, S.C. – With two weeks remaining prior to the determination of participants in the Conference Carolinas Bowl, there are multiple potential tiebreakers in play. Below are the approved Conference Carolinas football tiebreaker procedures.
Ties shall be broken in the following sequential manner:
(a) Head-to-head result(s) (winning percentage) between all involved teams during the regular season (only applicable if all involved teams competed against each other at least once or if one team has a winning record against each involved team or if one team has a losing record against each involved team; see Regulation 28.2.2.2 regarding institutions competing against each other more than the number of contests in the approved Conference schedule during the regular season);
(b) Record (winning percentage) against teams not involved in the tie in descending order beginning with the first-place team (as long as the comparative team was played by all teams involved in the tie);
(c) National NPI;
(d) Record (winning percentage) against common nonconference opponents; and
(e) Random selection by the Commissioner
Application. The tiebreaking procedure is applied beginning with the top seed and continued in descending order for each initial application. If there are multiple ties at different places in the standings, ties for lower-seeded positions remain unbroken if used in breaking a higher-seeded tie. If a particular tiebreaking procedure separates the teams involved, but all seeds are not resolved and multiple teams are still tied, the tiebreaking procedure reverts back to step (a) for each tier of the teams involved beginning with the top tier and continued in descending order for each application. The process continues until all tied teams have been seeded.
The Conference Carolinas Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, November 14 and will feature the top two seeded teams through games on November 7. The top seed will host the game.
