Top seeds advance to semifinals of 2026 Conference Carolinas Women's Flag Football Championship

DURHAM, N.C. – The inaugural Conference Carolinas Women’s Flag Football Championship started on Friday with four quarterfinal contests at Durham Country Memorial Stadium.

No. 1 Wingate def. No. 8 Mount St. Mary’s, 31-0
Wingate got off to a hot start with an interception on the first play, but Mount St. Mary’s responded to get a stop on defense. However, Wingate later scored two first quarter touchdowns to take a 12-0 lead. The Bulldogs added another score in the second quarter to hold an 18-0 at the half. Wingate tacked on touchdowns in the final two quarters and the defense continued to play well in the second half. The Bulldogs didn’t allow a score, taking the contest 31-0.

Wingate’s Jhenelle Francis went 13-for-21 for 143 yards passing while Kaylee Montalvo caught four passes, including two for touchdowns and accounted for 47 yards. Evonne Bruestle added three catches for 48 yards.

Wingate will face Barton in Saturday’s semifinal at 3:30 p.m.

No. 4 Barton def. No. 5 Emmanuel, 39-31
Barton started the contest with a pair of touchdowns in the opening five minutes before Emmanuel found the end zone in the final two minutes of the first quarter. Barton responded with another touchdown to take a 19-6 lead after the first 15 minutes. Barton scored consecutive touchdowns to start the second quarter before Emmanuel scored consecutive touchdowns. The second Lion score came with two seconds remaining to pull Emmanuel within 32-18 at the half.

The Lions pulled within 32-25 midway through the third period with a touchdown, but Barton responded with a touchdown. Emmanuel pulled within 39-31 with nine minutes remaining, but the Barton defense stood tough to take the contest 39-31.

Barton’s Sawyer Rigdon threw for 331 yards and four touchdowns while Emmanuel’s Lillian Stephens accounted for 313 passing yards and five touchdowns. For Barton, Valeria-Ange Batta caught eight passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns.

Barton will face Wingate in Saturday’s semifinal at 3:30 p.m.

No. 3 Lees-McRae def. No. 6 King, 47-6
Both defenses played well in the opening quarter as the contest remained scoreless after 15 minutes. Lees-McRae broke through with three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 20-0 lead at the half. The Bobcat advantage grew to 27-0 before the Tornado got on the board in the third quarter. Lees-McRae added three touchdowns in the final period to take the contest 47-6.

Makenzie Hicks three for 310 yards and seven touchdowns while Natalia Hernandez de Leon accounted for five catches for 92 yards and three touchdowns. Ashley Alverado added six catches for 83 yards and two touchdowns.

Lees-McRae will face Ferrum in Saturday’s semifinal at 6:00 p.m.

No. 2 Ferrum def. No. 7 Mount Olive, 72-0
The first quarter was tight as Ferrum led 6-0. The Panthers turned up the offense in the second quarter, holding a 45-0 lead at the half. Ferrum added a touchdown in the third quarter to take a 52-0 advantage into the final period. The Panthers added three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take the contest 72-0.

Payson Shreeve threw for 314 yards and four touchdowns while Jaden Hiers had four receptions for 89 yards and three touchdowns.

Ferrum will face Lees-McRae in Saturday’s semifinal at 6:00 p.m.
