Anderson Wins Fourth Consecutive
Conference Carolinas All-Sports ‘Joby Hawn Cup’

High Point, NC> Anderson University won their fourth consecutive Conference Carolinas Joby Hawn Cup with the completion of the recent league spring championships.  The Hawn Cup is awarded to the league member that shows the highest rating of excellence in all conference-sponsored sports.  The Hawn Cup is tallied after each sport season (fall, winter, & spring) and then awarded each year in honor of former Commissioner H.C. "Joby" Hawn for his many years of service to the former Carolinas Conference.

Hawn Cup points are awarded in each sport based on the order of regular season finish with bonus points going to the tournament champion and runner-up finishers, based on the number of participating teams in each sport.  Men's & women’s golf, men's and women's cross country, and men’s and women’s track & field are the only conference sponsored sports in which points are determined solely by conference tournament finish.

Anderson University took over the mid-year lead from early frontrunner Lees-McRae College after the completion of the winter basketball seasons and never looked back.  With the highest rating of .622 among league members, Anderson claims their fourth overall & fourth consecutive Hawn Cup while becoming the first four time winner since High Point College’s five year run from 1976 through 1980.

This year Anderson’s success can be traced through strong performances across many sports in regular season play with highlights coming in women’s basketball where they won the Conference Tournament Championship and in women’s soccer, men’s basketball, and men’s tennis where they took runner-up honors in conference tournaments.

Queens University of Charlotte made a great spring push to jump into second place in the final cup standings.  Queens came from fifth place after the winter season to finish with a .577 rating.  The Royals success has been highlighted by their men’s and women’s cross-country championships and softball tournament championship titles.

Limestone College was just behind Queens with a .574 rating and made a spring thrust of their own winning both the men’s & women’s lacrosse conference tournament championships and also taking the women’s track & field conference title.

Mount Olive finishes in fourth place with a rating of .526.  Lees-McRae, Pfeiffer, and Belmont Abbey were close behind with ratings of .521, .479, and .465 correspondingly.   Rounding out the schools in order were Erskine .417, Barton .345, Coker .265, Converse .240, and St. Andrews .105 respectively.
