Conference Carolinas Unveils All-Conference Student Support Team

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas unveiled the 2019-20 All-Conference Student Support Team on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. 

The 2019-20 All-Conference Student Support Team includes Michael Ford (Barton), Kelsey Garrison (Belmont Abbey), Robert Burns (Chowan), Hannah Gentle (Emmanuel), Nick Carroll (King), Jasmine Turpin (Lees-McRae), Kendra Toman (Mount Olive), Paige Beisecker (North Greenville) and Evan Bier (Southern Wesleyan). 

Ford was responsible for the play-by-play on the Barton Sports Network broadcasts for men’s and women’s basketball. The junior owns a 3.12 grade-point average. 

A senior field hockey player, Garrison took a lead role with the Belmont Abbey Sports Network this past year. She served as both a producer and a director on the BlueFrame broadcasts, while also training younger and new volunteers. She was also the coordinator for scheduling workers. Garrison was a volunteer for BASN for all four years of her college career. She worked virtually every position within the network. 

A senior from Myrtle Beach, S.C., Burns owns a 3.56 grade-point average as a Sport Management major. Burns has worked for the Chowan athletic department for the last three years, announcing games for volleyball, junior varsity basketball and soccer. He also provides analysis for home basketball and football games. This past year, he helped to announce the 2019 Conference Carolinas Men’s Soccer Championship that Chowan hosted. Burns is also a member of the Chowan baseball team.

Gentle is a Business Administration major with a 3.39 grade-point average. The senior has worked the front desk for the Emmanuel athletic department every day for the last two years. She works mainly with compliance, but she also helps in numerous others such as with community engagement and helping the Emmanuel coaches. 

Carroll is a senior with a 4.0 grade-point average in Business with an emphasis in Management and Marketing. The President of King’s Tornado Leadership Academy and an officer and a committee member with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Carroll also served as a student coach this past year for the King baseball team after being injured. According to the King baseball staff Carroll noted that “he was willing to do whatever I can do to contribute.”

Turpin handled the play-by-play along with analyst duties for the Lees-McRae men’s and women’s basketball games this past season on the Conference Carolinas Digital Network. Turpin is a senior Sport Management major who is hoping to continue in the sports broadcast industry. 

Toman was a valuable member of the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament champion Mount Olive women’s soccer team this past year, serving as the team manager. In her role with the team for the last two years she has done everything from providing content for the team’s social media platforms, setting up training, packing the team for road trips, doing laundry, food orders, running team warmups on game day to helping with recruiting visits and administrative duties. Toman has also been a vital asset to the production of every Trojan Sports Network Broadcast for over two years. 

A junior from Hartsville, S.C., Beisecker is a member of the North Greenville women’s volleyball team. When not in season, Beisecker helped with statistics for men’s volleyball as well as men’s and women’s basketball. She even took it upon herself to learn the new NCAA Live Stats platform this past season. Her efforts helped North Greenville tremendously during the spring when they had multiple events taking place at the same time. An Early Childhood Education major, Beisecker boasts a 3.51 grade-point average. 

Bier has served as the Director of Operations/Team Manager for four years for Southern Wesleyan men’s soccer. He also serves as the official scorebook for men’s and women’s basketball games along with many other aspects of game day operations. Bier owns a 3.41 grade-point average. 

The All-Conference Student Support Team was created in 2016-17 to recognize nominated students from member institutions who support an athletic team and/or athletic department through service. Examples of service include but are not limited to: team managers, statistical support, video service and/or game day operations support.
