CHARLOTTE, N.C. - It was a record-breaking opening day of the 2020 Conference Carolinas Men's and Women's Swimming Championships at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center. 

 

Barton leads the women's title race after day one, while Emmanuel is in the lead after day one on the men's side of things. 

 

Multiple Conference Carolinas Swimming Championships records were broken in the finals with Emmanuel's Alex Sobers setting the new mark in the men's 50 yard freestyle (19.72), Barton's Nicola Macdonald setting the new record in the women's 50 yard freestyle (23.81), Barton's Bartlomiej Swiderski (1:49.24) earning the new league record in the men's 200 yard individual medley, Molly Layde of Lees-McRae garnering the new record in the women's 1000 yard freestyle (10:36.08), Elder Oliveira of Emmanuel collecting the new top spot in the 1000 yard men's freestyle (9:21.60) and Julia Simioni of Emmanuel posting the best time in league championships history in the women's 200 yard individual medley (2:07.36).  

 

The 2020 Conference Carolinas Men’s and Women’s Swimming Championships are being held in conjunction with the 2020 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Men’s and Women’s Swimming Championships.

 

The championships will continue on Friday with the 400 individual medley, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay.
