Player of the
Year:
Carlos Yanes, Limestone
A four-time Player of the Week choice this season and the
defending Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Player of the Year,
senior Carlos Yanes has been nearly unstoppable with an 18-4
singles mark, all at No. 1, and a 21-1 record at No. 1 doubles with
senior Rafael Ferla.
With the latter, that pairing had won their first 21 on the
season and Yanes had a personal streak of 24 consecutive doubles
wins at one point dating back to last year. In conference he posted
a perfect 10-0 singles record and 9-1 record in doubles play. He
once again joins 2003 winner Alexander Grupp as the only other
Limestone men's tennis player to win Player of the Year and is the
first to do so twice in a career.
Freshman of the
Year:
Andre Staab, Coker
Andre Staab put together an outstanding freshman season, leading
the Cobras to their first ever Conference Carolinas title. Playing
at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, Staab put together a
singles record of 15-5 overall and a doubles record of 11-9
overall. Staab is also the first Cobra to ever earn an individual
regional ranking, as the No. 12 men's tennis player in the
Southeast Region.
Coach of the
Year:
Tom Simpson, Coker
Tom Simpson, in his second season at Coker, has led the men's
team to a 16-4 overall record with a perfect 10-0 mark in
conference play. Ranked No. 6 in the Southeast Region, Simpson has
transformed the Cobras into a conference champion and a regional
contender.
