Glover Chosen Conference Carolinas Nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas officially designated University of Mount Olive women's track and field standout Hannah Glover as its 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year.

Glover was one of 151 student-athletes across all of the NCAA to be named an official nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year.

The women were selected from a pool of 585 school nominees. The nominees represent college athletes from 20 sports spanning all three NCAA divisions.

According to the NCAA, of the nominees, 64 competed in Division I, 33 competed in Division II and 54 competed in Division III.

“Hannah is more than well-deserving of this prestigious honor,” Conference Carolinas Commissioner Chris Colvin said. “She has represented the conference and her institution incredibly well during her time at Mount Olive.”

As a Trojan student-athlete, Glover was a member of six conference championship teams. She has earned Academic All-Conference honors four times and is a five-time Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll honoree and a two-time National STUDENT-Athlete Day recipient. Glover was recently awarded the 2019 UMO Outstanding Recreation and Leisure Studies Major Award.

Glover earned Southeast All-Region honors in the women's hammer twice and was the conference record holder in discus in both 2016-17 & 2017-18. During her sophomore year, Glover was the Conference Carolinas champion in both the hammer and discus, while also earning first-team all-conference honors during the outdoor season.

In the community, Glover volunteered with the Make-A-Wish and Be The Match organizations. Glover also helped with cleaning up the town of Mount Olive after the 2018 hurricane, serving meals at the ADLA soup kitchen. She also assisted at the Kitty Askins center and helped organize the senior games and a murder mystery dinner fundraiser for the theater club at UMO.

Glover will graduate in August of 2019 from the University of Mount Olive with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science.

"Hannah is a young lady who exemplifies leadership, hard work, and a committed student in the classroom and on the field. We are pleased that she was selected as the conference nominee for Woman of the Year. She is definitely deserving of this nomination," Dr. LaToya Lindsey, Mount Olive Associate Director of Athletics/SWA, said.

The Top 30 honorees, comprising 10 women from each division, will be named by the Woman of the Year selection committee in September. The selection committee will then narrow the pool to nine finalists — with three from each division — in early October. From those finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics will select the 2019 Woman of the Year.

The 2019 Woman of the Year will be named, and the Top 30 honorees will be celebrated, at the annual banquet Oct. 20 in Indianapolis.

The NCAA Woman of the Year program has recognized graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership since its inception in 1991.
