High Point, NC> Limestone College has taken an early lead in the Conference Carolinas Joby Hawn Cup with
the completion of all the fall sports league championships. The Hawn Cup is awarded to the league member
that shows the highest rating of excellence in conferencesponsored sports. The Hawn Cup is tallied after each
sport season (fall, winter, & spring) and then awarded each year in honor of former Commissioner H.C. "Joby" Hawn
for his many years of service to the former Carolinas Conference.
Conference Carolinas will name a winner for just the women’s sports, a winner for just the men’s sports, and then
an overall winner using both the men and women’s combined tallies. Hawn Cup points are awarded in each sport
based on the order of regular season finish with bonus points going to the tournament champion (2 bonus points)
and runner-up finisher (1 bonus point), based on the number of participating teams in each sport.
For the individual women’s cup, King University has jumped-out to the lead tallying 30 points for a .882 rating.
King’s initial lead can be credited to their championship in women’s cross country and runner-up finish in women’s volleyball.
The Tornado is followed by Limestone College who was steady in all the women’s sports totaling 29.5 points. Erskine College
is in third with 20.5 points with Belmont Abbey College and Converse College tied with 20 points.
Limestone College edges Pfeiffer University as the early frontrunner for the individual men’s cup. The Saints have a
one point advantage after the Fall taking 18 points and a .900 rating over the Falcons with 17 points and a .850 tally
after taking the men’s soccer championship title. King University & the University of Mount Olive close out the top four
teams with 15.5 and 15 points respectively. The Trojans won their third consecutive men’s cross country title with King
acquiring the runner-up finish.
For the overall tally, Limestone College is the early leader followed by King University. Limestone totals 47.5 points
and a .880 rating with King only two points behind with 45.5 total points and .843 rating. While Limestone did not
receive bonus points for a title or runner-up finish in the championships, their consistency across the board has them
atop the standings. King is followed by last year’s Hawn Cup winner, the University of Mount Olive with an .611
overall rating. Converse College comes in at the fourth place positon, making a run of their own with a .588 rating.
Rounding out the schools in order were Barton & Pfeiffer who are tied at .574, Belmont Abbey .500, Erskine .491,
Lees-McRae .481 and North Greenville at .380 respectively.
