Championship Meet
The conference championship meet will be an open meet for all conference-sponsoring members. A team not eligible for NCAA postseason competition is not eligible to compete in the conference championship. (Noting that the minimum requirements for cross country are competing in at least five qualifying meets with at least five runners. The conference meet and the NCAA regional can each count toward the five.) For 2018, it is acceptable if a team is participating in the conference championship to include the conference championship or regional championship within their required minimum (with the expectation that it would participate in the championships to meet the minimum requirements). If the team does not actually participate in the NCAA regional, its conference result would be vacated and would receive 0 points toward the Hawn Cup. In order to avoid this scenario for 2019 and beyond, teams are required to have met at least the minimum to qualify for NCAA regionals (four regular season competitions), NOT including the conference championship meet. These four regular season competitions should include at least five student-athletes participating in the required distance runs (W=6K; M=8K). If for some reason one (of the four) regular season meets did not meet NCAA standards/canceled/etc., then the conference championship could at that point be included in the NCAA required minimum to meet regional qualification standards. If the team does not qualify or participate in the conference meet, its conference result would be vacated if applicable and would receive 0 points toward the Hawn Cup.
Tie Breaking Procedures: In the event of a tie, the time of the fifth-place runner will break the tie.

Ejection Policy: When a player or team party member is ejected, both the team's coach and (if a conference opponent) the opposing coach are to notify their director of athletics upon completion of the meet. The director of athletics will immediately notify the conference office and subsequently complete and submit to the conference office the Ejection Report Form. The conference office will notify each member president immediately when notified of an ejection.
A coach ejected for an "unsporting act" will be cautioned by the institution’s director of athletics or immediate supervisor in a form provided by the conference. Copies of cautions and suspensions will be provided to the institution’s President, FAR, Supervisor of Officials, and Commissioner. A second ejection in the same year will, minimally, carry a next-meet suspension. A third ejection in the same year will, minimally, carry a next two-meet suspension. End-of-year suspensions will be carried forward to the next year. Ejected coaches must leave the sight of the playing field when ejected. If the ejected coach does not comply in a timely manner, the meet is forfeited (if applicable).
All-Conference Team: Based on placed finish (five First-Team, five Second-Team, and five Third-Team).
Runner of the Year: Men’s and women’s individual winners of the Championships.
Freshman of the Year: Freshmen men’s and women’s individual best-placed finishers of the Championships.
- A student-athlete should qualify only if this is the first collegiate institution attended.
- It is the student-athlete’s first year of competition (academic sophomores/redshirt freshmen are eligible as long as they took a redshirt year at the same member institution).
- Any transfer exception is not applicable (e.g., a student-athlete who transfers from an institution but did not play a sport is still not eligible for award).
Coach of the Year: The head coach of the men’s and women’s team winners of the Championships.
Student-Athlete Pledge of Sportsmanship Form (Reminder to be signed by each student-athlete during preseason and filed in each institution’s athletics department.)
