CONFERENCE CAROLINAS ANNOUNCES MEN’S & WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

 

Lees McRae’s Webb Named Men’s Indoor Field Player of the Week


 

High Point, N.C. – Lees McRae College’s Evan Webb has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Field Player of the Week during week two of the 2012 – 2013 Indoor Track & Field season. Evan Webb continued his impressive season with a record-tying performance at the Hilton Garden Invitational, equaling the JDL Center mark with a vault of 4.90 meters to finish third out of 50 competitors. Webb's third-place finish was the highest of any non-NCAA Division I competitor.

 

Mount Olive’s Lafond Named Men’s Indoor Track Player of the Week

 

High Point, N.C. – Mount Olive College’s Dylan Lafond has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Track Player of the Week during week two of the 2012 – 2013 Indoor Track & Field season. Mount Olive freshman Dylan Lafond finished third overall out of 24 runners and beat out six of the seven Division I runners in the men’s mile at the Gene Anderson Invitational, hosted by University of North Carolina. Lafond finished behind only an unattached runner and a UNC runner, beating out runners from UNC, Duke, UNC-Charlotte and Norfolk State. Lafond ran the mile in a school record time of 4:16.14, second fastest in the conference this season. He was one of three Trojans to beat the previous school record in the mile.

 

Mount Olive’s Brown Named Women’s Indoor Field Player of the Week

 

High Point, N.C. – Mount Olive College’s Jaynell Brown has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Field Player of the Week during week two of the 2012 – 2013 Indoor Track & Field season. Reigning Conference Carolinas Women’s Field Event Athlete of the Week Jaynell Brown broke the Mount Olive College record in the women’s shot put for the second straight meet, finishing 11th out of 30 throwers overall and beating out seven of the 17 Division I competitors, as well all non-Division I throwers. Brown’s distance of 12.37 meters is the third best in the conference this season. She beat her previous mark by .26 meters.

 

King’s Witt Named Women’s Indoor Track Player of the Week

 

High Point, N.C. – King College’s Hannah Witt has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Player of the Week during week two of the 2012 – 2013 Indoor Track & Field season. Hannah Witt improved her 5,000-meter run for a second time this season, bettering the national qualifying mark by 16 seconds at last weekend's Hilton Garden Invitational (Winston Salem, N.C.). Witt turned in a time of 17:27 (adjusted) to place first out of 25 in the event.
