Barton's Clemons Named Week 5 Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

     

HIGH POINT, N.C.Barton College's Micah Clemons has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 29 - Feb. 4.

Clemons, a sophomore from Greenville, N.C., showed his consistency in the throws this past weekend at the Buccaneer Invitational.  In the weight throw, he was the only Division II competitor to make it to finals and ended the competition in fifth place with a throw of 16.74 meters (54' 11 1/4").  That mark is his second-furthest of the season, behind his mark of 16.83 meters which currently sits atop the conference standings in that event.  In the shotput, his mark of 14.44 meters (47' 4 1/2") was good for an eighth-place finish. 

 

Barton's Russell Named Week 4 Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

    

HIGH POINT, N.C.Barton College's Larry Russell has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 22 - Jan. 28.

Russell, a junior from Sicklerville, N.J., posted strong performances in both of the horizontal jumps this past weekend at the 2018 Liberty Kickoff.  His winning long jump of 7.37 meters (24' 2 1/4"), which missed the facility record by just 0.03m, was good enough to put him at #5 in Division II so far this season.  As of now he is the only Conference Carolinas athlete to surpass the 7-meter mark in that event.  In the triple jump, Russell marked a 14.31 meter (46' 11 1/2") leap, which is just 0.08m off his school record and was good for 6th place.  That mark is the third-best in the league so far this season.

 

Mount Olive's Carr Named Week 3 Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

   

HIGH POINT, N.C.University of Mount Olive's Trevor Carr has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 15. - Jan. 21.

Carr, a sophomore from Camden, N.C., also put together a strong day of competition this past weekend at the Wake Forest Invitational.  Carr soared 14.47m (47' 5 3/4") in the triple jump to notch a provisional qualifying mark and a new personal best by over 2 feet.  Additionally, his mark was good for a new school record and second-place at the meet.  Carr was also part of the 4x400m relay team that claimed first on the way to another school record, running 3:21.59.  

 

Lees-McRae's Martin Named Week 2 Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

  

HIGH POINT, N.C.Lees-McRae College's Jalen Martin has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 8 - Jan. 14.

Martin, a freshman from Concord, N.C., started his first season with the Bobcats on a strong note by posting solid finishes in three events at the ETSU Invitational.  In the long jump, he recorded a mark of 6.72m (22' 3/4") to solidify 7th-place honors, the highest finish of any Bobcat on the weekend.  He also competed in the 200m run (22.45) and the 60m dash (7.06), posting 19th and 26th-place finishes, respectively.  He currently sits in the top-10 in the conference in all three events. 

 

Mount Olive's Bayles Named Week 1 Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

 

HIGH POINT, N.C.University of Mount Olive’s Martin Bayles has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Dec. 2 - Jan. 7.

A junior from Mount Olive, N.C., Bayles started his indoor season off with a bang at the CNU Holiday Open on December 9 when he broke his own school record in the pole vault, which he had previously set just the weekend before in his season-opener.  His winning vault of 4.40m (14' 5 1/4") was an indoor personal best by almost a foot, and currently has him sitting atop the conference standings.
