Mount Olive's Craig Named Week 6 Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

         

HIGH POINT, N.C.University of Mount Olive's Adam Craig has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Feb. 5 - Feb. 11.

A junior from Lauder, Scotland, Craig put forth a strong performance in the 5000 meter run at the GVSU Big Meet last Friday.  His time of 14:36.04 was good for 15th place in a stacked field of nearly 200 runners.  That time is both a national provisional qualifying mark and a school record.  Craig sits atop the conference standings in that event going into the conference championship next weekend.   

 

North Greenville's Richardson Named Week 5 Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

        

HIGH POINT, N.C.North Greenville University's Tevin Richardson has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 29 - Feb. 4.

A sophomore from Calhoun Falls, S.C., Richardson set a new personal best in the indoor 200m dash this past weekend at the Buccaneer Invitational.  His best time of the day came in the preliminary round when he ran a provisional qualifying mark of 21.72 seconds, the third fastest time going into the finals.  In the final round, he again surpassed the national provisional qualifying mark by running 21.77 seconds to take second place overall, behind only a Division I competitor.  He now holds the top spot in the conference in that event.  

 

Limestone's Simmons Named Week 4 Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

       

HIGH POINT, N.C.Limestone College's Marquett Simmons Jr. has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 22 - Jan. 28.

A senior from Jonesboro, G.A., Simmons handled a full slate of events this weekend at the 2018 Liberty Kickoff with ease, coming away with three provisional qualifying marks and a new school record.  His time of 6.87 seconds in the 60m dash was good for 6th place in the meet and is the second-fastest time in Conference Carolinas so far this season.  In the 200m dash, Simmons' time of 21.62 seconds placed him atop the Conference Carolinas leaderboard and is currently the 12th-fastest time in Division II.  Simmons' final performance of the day came as part of the 4x400m relay team that ran 3:13.55 on the way to a provisional qualifying mark that is currently 4th in the nation and a new school record. 

 

North Greenville's Sherman Named Week 3 Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

      

HIGH POINT, N.C.North Greenville University's JJ Sherman has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 15 - Jan. 21.

A junior from Pawleys Island, S.C., Sherman produced a dominating performance at the Wake Forest Invitational this weekend.  On the way to a first place finish over a strong field of Division I competition in the 200m dash, he posted a new school record and indoor personal best with a converted time of 21.78.  His time currently ranks first in Conference Carolinas and second in the Southeast region, and is only 0.01 seconds from a provisional qualifying mark. 

 

King’s Russell Ballowe Named Week 2 Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

     

HIGH POINT, N.C.King University's James Russell Ballowe has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 8 - Jan. 14.

A senior from Roseland, Va., Ballowe started off his season this past weekend with impressive performances in two different races at the ETSU Invitational.  Outpacing a field of 34 other runners, including numerous Division I athletes, he won the 5000 meter run in a time of 15:30.75, topping the next-fastest time by nearly 8 seconds.  The following day, Ballowe posted an equally impressive race in the 3000 meter run, placing 16th in a time of 8:54.07.  He currently sits atop the conference performance list in both events.

 

Limestone’s Fareed Named Week 1 Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

    

HIGH POINT, N.C.Limestone College's Naim Fareed has been named the Conference Carolinas Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Dec. 2 - Jan. 7.

Fareed, a senior from Decatur, G.A., posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 60m hurdles in his first outing of the season at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic.  His meet-winning time of 8.13 seconds is currently the top time in the conference and the ninth-best in Division II.  That time is only 0.01 seconds off his PR in that event.
