Mount Olive's Hanle Named Week 6 Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Leah Hanle has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Feb. 5 - Feb. 11.

Hanle, a sophomore from Lichtenstein, Germany, bettered her season-best time in the 3000 meter run this past weekend at the GVSU Big Meet.  Her time of 9:46.46, a national provisional qualifying mark, was good for 6th place in a field full of strong competitors.  Hanle's time has her sitting atop the Conference Carolinas leaderboard in that event and is currently the 15th-fastest in Division II.  

 

Mount Olive's McCoy Named Week 5 Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Sydney McCoy has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 29 - Feb. 4.

Freshman Sydney McCoy showed up in a big way this past weekend at the Vince Brown Invitational.  In the 60m dash, she won each section of the race (prelims, semifinals, and finals) by nearly half a second.  Her performance in the semifinal round, however, was her best of the weekend.  McCoy's time of 7.68 seconds was a provisional qualifying mark and moved her into the number two spot in the conference.  She also won the 200m dash in a time of 26.63.  

 

Limestone's Brown Named Week 4 Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Limestone College's Zawadi Brown has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 22 - Jan. 28.

A junior from Walterboro, S.C., Brown recorded two new personal bests this past weekend at the 2018 Liberty Kickoff on the way to notching a provisional qualifying mark.  Her time of 7.67 seconds in the 60m dash not only improved her previous best time, it also set a new program record and further solidified her place at the top of the league in that event.  Brown also competed in the 200m dash, setting a new personal best of 25.64 seconds, which, when converted for track size, places her third in the conference. 

 

Mount Olive's Ritter Named Week 3 Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olives's Celine Ritter has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 15 - Jan. 21.

A freshman from Roesrath, Germany, Ritter moved into second place in the University of Mount Olive record books this weekend after an impressive performance in the mile.  Her time, which narrowly missed the provisional qualifying mark, was good for fourth place at the meet.  That time leads the conference by 15 seconds and is also the top time in the Southeast Region so far this season. 

 

Southern Wesleyan's Lewis Named Week 2 Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan University's Jami Lewis has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Jan. 8 - Jan. 14.

A sophomore from Stafford, Va., Lewis showed her prowess in the sprints this weekend at the ETSU Invitational.  Competing in a field of primarily Division I athletes, she took the top prize in the 400m dash finals with a time of 58.55.  Running in the 400m dash prelims the day before, Lewis posted an even more impressive time of 58.01, which is currently the top spot in the conference and the second-fastest time in the Southeast region.  Lewis also competed in the 200m dash (25.78), in which she placed 14th, and was a part of the runner-up 4x400m relay team.    

 

Mount Olive's Hanle Named Week 1 Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive's Leah Hanle has been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for meets held Dec. 2. - Jan. 7.

A sophomore from Lichtenstein, Germany, Hanle followed up a successful cross country season with a dominant season-opening performance at the GCSU Holiday Open.  Competing in the 5000m run, she notched an NCAA automatic qualifying mark on the way to smashing her own school record by 59 seconds.  Hanle's time currently leads all of Division II in that distance.   


INDOOR SEASON


 

High Point, N.C. – Converse College’s Ashly Sutherland has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track Player of the Week during week three of the 2014 - 2015 Indoor Track & Field season. Sutherland posted a Conference Carolinas best 800m time at the Winston-Salem State Open running the event in 2:17.07 missing the NCAA DII Provisional time by just over a second. The Cowpens, S.C. native leads the Conference Carolinas in the mile event running a school record 5:09.80 finishing fifth overall at the Bob Pollock Invitational against a majority DI field. Sutherland is ranked 15th among DII athletes in the 800m and 37th overall in the mile.
