Lees-McRae's Cooke and Southern Wesleyan's Martin Named Conference Carolinas Softball Players of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Lees-McRae College's Faith Cooke was named the Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week, while Southern Wesleyan University's Ashton Martin was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Apr. 1-7, the Conference announced today. This marks the first POTW for Cooke and second overall for Lees-McRae, while being the first for Martin and third overall for Southern Wesleyan.

A freshman from Denver, N.C., Cooke led the Bobcats to a 1-1 record last week in Conference Carolinas play against Belmont Abbey. Cooke hit .750 with six hits, including four extra-base hits (3 2B, HR), with four RBI and three runs scored. Cooke's best performance came in a 13-8 game one win, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, one homer, three RBI and three runs scored.

A sophomore from Six Mile, S.C., Martin posted a 2-0 record and .50 ERA for the Warriors last week. In two complete game appearances and 14 innings pitched, Martin scattered five hits, give up one run (earned), while registering 14 strikeouts. Martin's best performance came in a 4-0 complete game win over Converse. Martin would just miss a no-hitter, giving up one hit while collecting nine strikeouts. Martin also hit .333 with three hits, including one home run, two RBI and one run scored in four games.

Delaney Byers (Southern Wesleyan) - Batted .444 with four hits and three RBI in four games.
Charlene Thompson (Mount Olive) - Batted .455 with five hits in four games.

Also nominated for Softball Pitcher of the Week
Callie Richards (North Greenville) - 2-1 record with 17 innings pitched with 17 strikeouts and .82 ERA in three appearances.
Morgan Hendrix (Erskine) - 2-1 record with 20 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts and 1.40 ERA in three appearances.
Casey Gilbert (King) - 3-0 record with 21 innings pitched with 16 strikeouts and 1.33 ERA in three appearances, while batting .278 with five hits and six RBI in six games.
Mallory Ratcliff (Mount Olive) - 2-0 record with 14 innings pitched with nine strikeouts and .50 ERA in two appearances.
