2018-19 Conference Carolinas Women's Swimming Preview and Swimmers to Watch


HIGH POINT, N.C.
 – The 2018-19 Conference Carolinas Women's Swimming preseason poll has been released. In its first year of postseason eligibility, Emmanuel College will enter the season as the favorite to win the Conference Carolinas Women's Swimming Championship, according to Conference Carolinas coaches.

 

1.  Emmanuel College: The Lions collected five first-place votes and a total of 50 points to earn the top spot in 2018-19 by Conference coaches.

It's Emmanuel's first year of postseason eligibility in Conference Carolinas and they are coming off an amazing 2017-18. The team dominated nearly every meet it participated in and could be a real threat to defending champion Barton repeating.

2. Barton College: The Bulldogs rank second in the poll with 45 points and one first-place vote from coaches.

Barton won the inaugural Conference Carolinas Women's Swimming Championship in 2017-18 and has a great chance at claiming the 2018-19 title. Four all-conference swimmers return in Kleanza Cathers, Annika Jasek-Rysdahl, Nicola Macdonald and Kazia Patzer with the team also notching all-conference honors in four relays.

3. Converse College: The Valkyries placed third in the preseason poll after collecting 41 points.

Converse returns as the runner-up from 2017-18 and will rely on its two returning individual all-conference swimmers Sarah Russell and Lisa Studstill and three all-conference three relay teams to lead the team.

4.  Chowan University: The Hawks are preseason ranked fourth after racking up 39 points.

The Hawks placed third last season and return one all-conference swimmer in AnnMarie Spiker, while also having five all-conference relay teams from 2017-18.

5.  King University: The Tornado received 35 points from Conference coaches to check-in at fifth in the poll.

King notched a fifth-place finish last season and have three all-conference swimmers in Macarena Martin Mayor, Jess Vargo and Madison Wisley back to help the team improve in 2018-19.

6.  Lees-McRae College: The Bobcats tallied 30 points and are in sixth-place to open the year. 

Lees-McRae is entering its first season of Conference Carolinas swimming.
