HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olive duo Leah Hanle and Taylor Moncrief have been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held Dec. 2 - Jan. 7, the Conference announced today.
A sophomore from Lichtenstein, Germany, Hanle followed up a successful cross country season with a dominant season-opening performance at the GCSU Holiday Open. Competing in the 5000m run, she notched an NCAA automatic qualifying mark on the way to smashing her own school record by 59 seconds. Hanle's time currently leads all of Division II in that distance.
Moncrief, who hails from Jacksonville, N.C., started her sophomore campaign in style at the UNCG Early Bird Duals on December 3 by setting school records in both the long jump and triple jump, while also exceeding the national provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump. Her personal record leap of 5.56m (18'3") in the long jump was good for third place at the meet and has her sitting comfortably atop the conference performance list. Her triple jump mark of 11.69m (38' 4 1/4"), another personal record mark, was good for second place, and is currently the top mark in the conference and the ninth-best in Division II.
