“In September we held our ‘Leading the Way: Champions in Body, Mind and Soul’ SAAC Retreat and Leadership event. It was at this time and after connecting with our tremendous student-athletes in Conference Carolinas over the course of this athletic year that we determined that there was a true need for a seminar on Mental Health,” said Conference Carolinas Assistant Commissioner Jill Weston. “It is a great opportunity to have open discussions about issues student-athletes and more are facing every day.”
Renowned speaker on the topic and former NCAA student-athlete Ivy Watts (Bio) will serve as the keynote speaker at the inaugural Conference Carolinas Mental Health Workshop.
In addition, former LSU women’s soccer student-athlete Ashleigh Alcorn, registered dietitian Annie Anderson, Head Athletic Trainer/Senior Woman Administrator at King Sheila Crockett, Chief Resident of Psychiatry Shea Fontana, Director of Counseling & Wellness at Converse Bethany Garr and Belmont Abbey women’s soccer head coach Mike Lynch will serve on the mental health panel.
Those interested can also submit questions to the panel anonymously HERE. The anonymous questions will be answered by the panel at the Conference Carolinas Mental Health Workshop.
