A freshman from Fort Mill, South Carolina, Shope bested her previous school record time in the mile run by three full seconds as she finished the mile run in 5:23.23 at the South Carolina Invitational. She also had a new personal best in the 800m with a time of 2:21.09. She is currently first in Conference Carolinas and fourth in the Southeast Region in the 800m this indoor season while her mile time is third-best in the league in 2023.
