A freshman from Columbia, South Carolina, Sims claimed the top time in Conference Carolinas in the 400m hurdles originally at the SWU Gotta Run Invite on April 1 with a time of 54.99. He eclipsed his own time in claiming the Conference Carolinas title later in the month with a time of 53.99 in the event at the 2023 Conference Carolinas Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
