A senior from Tampa, Florida, Chase Martin of Belmont Abbey put together a solid weekend for The Abbey to start the spring, earning a 6-2, 6-2 win over Paulo Gutierrez of Mars Hill in No. 2 singles en route to a 7-0 win for the Crusaders. In addition, he competed in No. 1 doubles with Jackson Korta against the Lions.
This past Saturday, Martin earned two wins in an exhibition against Big South Conference preseason favorite Gardner-Webb. In No. 1 doubles, he again teamed up with Korta to earn a 6-3 win over Cathal Butler and Alex Lepine of the Bulldogs. He followed that up with a marathon victory over Lepine in No. 2 singles, winning 7-6 (5), 3-6, 11-9.
