A sophomore from Edenvale, South Africa, Day was 2-0 last weekend at No. 1 singles at the 2022 Raines Company City of Florence Invitational Tournament at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center. Against Mount Olive at the tournament, Day bested reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and regionally-ranked Armando Ferreira 7-5, 7-5. He also downed Jannis Jung of Coker 6-4, 6-0. He was close to being 3-0 on the week at No. 1 singles, but his match against nationally eighth-ranked Lander’s No. 1 in Bailey Horne went unfinished. He was up 6-4, 5-1 in the match before Lander took the team match victory and left the match unfinished.
Day was also 2-0 at No. 1 doubles on the weekend, joining Leonel Gonzalez to best Mount Olive’s Ferreira and Aditya Balda, 6-2, and Coker’s Samuel Winter and Thibaut Decaluwe, 6-1. Day and Gonzalez were tied 5-5 with Horne and Matthew De Groot of Lander before the doubles match was left unfinished.
