María Belén Vendrell of Converse Named CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team
GREENVILLE, S.C. – María Belén Vendrell of Converse has been selected to the 2021-22 Academic All-America® Women’s At-Large Team announced by CoSIDA on Wednesday afternoon.
The teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
María Belén Vendrell, a senior on the women’s tennis team at Converse, was selected to the Women’s At-Large Third Team. The international business & economics major owns a 3.99 GPA. She is the first Confernece Carolinas women’s student-athlete to earn At-Large All-America honors since 2017.
This past season, Vendrell anchored the Valkyries program at the No. 1 singles court. The senior posted a 7-10 overall record and 5-6 conference record at the No. 1 flight. In doubles action, Vendrell played with five different partners this year and posted a 7-10 overall record playing at both the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. The Argentinian native also finished her career with the most singles wins (29), the second-most doubles wins (31) and the second-most overall wins (60) in program history.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
