Converse, Francis Marion Advance to Developmental Men’s Soccer Championship Final
Mount Olive, N.C./Tigerville, S.C. - Converse and Francis Marion capped a thrilling day of soccer in the 2023 Conference Carolinas Developmental Men’s Soccer Championship as each advanced to the championship final with penalty kick wins on Monday night.
Converse and Francis Marion will travel to Wilson, North Carolina for the championship final hosted by Barton on Monday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
In the North Greenville bracket, Converse opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over the host Crusaders before King defeated Belmont Abbey in game two of the bracket, 2-1. Belmont Abbey won the battle of the Crusaders in the consolation match, 2-1. In the thrilling championship, Converse and King played an even 60 minutes and finished the double overtime period tied at 2. After 11 rounds of penalty kicks, it was the Valkyries who came out on top, 9-8.
In the Mount Olive bracket, Barton opened play with a 2-1 double-overtime win over the host Trojans before Francis Marion defeated Mount Olive 2-0 to set up a winner-take-all game three. In the final contest, Francis Marion and Barton were tied 1-1 after two overtimes and took six rounds of penalty kicks for the Patriots to advance, 5-4.
