GREENVILLE, S.C. - It was a thrilling opening round of the 2024 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Championship with ninth-seeded Belmont Abbey, 11th-seeded King and 12th-seeded North Greenville all advancing to the second round.

North Greenville and seventh-seeded Converse had the game of the day with the Crusaders emerging with a three-point win in the third overtime. The two teams entered overtime tied at 65-all and then both scored 10 points in each overtime to force a third overtime period. The two teams would still be tied with under a minute to play in the third overtime, but the Crusaders would score the final three points over the final 40 seconds to collect a 99-96 victory in the instant classic. CaDarrius Sowell led four Crusaders in double figures with 28 points. Uzziah Dawkins led four for Converse in double figures with 19 points.

A strong first half helped lead King to a 87-79 win over eighth-seeded Young Harris. The Tornado entered the halftime break up 40-30 and that lead would prove to be more than enough despite Young Harris outscoring them, 49-47, in the second half. Mikhail Pocknett finished with a double-double with 23 points and 12 boards to lead King in its first round victory. Karl Chavis (23) and Carl Cleveland (21) both scored over 20 for Young Harris in its season-ending loss.

It was also a tale of two halves in Belmont Abbey's victory over 10th-seeded Mount Olive. The Abbey owned a 54-39 lead over Mount Olive at intermission, but Mount Olive outscored Belmont Abbey, 43-35, in the second half. Mount Olive would get as close as one with just over a minute to go at 83-82, but Belmont Abbey scored the final six points in the game to earn an 89-82 win. Wade Jackson (25) and Mason Taylor (20) both scored over 20 in the Belmont Abbey victory with Taylor also corralling 13 rebounds to pick up the double-double. Redford Dunton led two in double figures for Mount Olive with 18 points.
